Dog Training Newark DE

Services

All puppies and dogs are taught with the clicker training method, using food treats as a primary reinforcer until new behaviors are fluent and performed upon request in a wide variety of settings and with distractions. At this time, the clicker is no longer needed and then a Random schedule of treat delivery is employed, to keep the dog motivated and working until he gets “paid again.” Dogs do what works for them, and if they are getting paid, they will work! A clicker is a small plastic box you can hold in your hand; it makes a noise like a cricket when you press a metal tab. Clicker training has been around for years, but has become enormously popular since the 1970s, when author Karen Pryor began writing about it. It is now used in all fields of dog training. It goes like this: Rocky, sit. Rocky sits= immediate click= immediate treat delivery (every time behavior is requested and performed). This is classical conditioning; Rocky comes to realize that click=treat and that even better, realizes that behavior =click=treat. Dogs begin to offer behaviors to make the click happen. Clicker trained dogs are very motivated and attentive, and sometimes very creative! All my clients are loving this method of training, no holds barred!

Good Manners Program

My main area of expertise is a 7-weeks Good Manners Program that teaches a variety of foundation behaviors for puppies, and dogs of all ages, that have had no training or have very poor manners. Mainly, this happens in a private setting at the clients` home, giving great flexibility as to where we can work. Group classes are offered at Rainwood Kennels. Topics covered:

  • Attention
  • Sit
  • Down
  • Stay
  • Recall
  • Wait at doors
  • Leave it
  • Touch
  • Go to Bed
  • Polite Greetings
  • Control Puppy Mouthiness

A nice step forward would be to certify your dog as an AKC Canine Good Citizen, for which I am an approved Evaluator.

As well, Graduates can go on to Good Manners Level Two.
