A NEW DEVELOPMENT in the upcoming year will be a transition to a three tiered level of classes; B.A., M.A. and PhD levels of achievement with finite criteria for achievements in each level. This structure follows the APDT C.L.A.S.S system, which will be wonderful for dogs and owners alike. Meanwhile, read more at below link as I begin the transition. Soon I will also begin the process of becoming a C;L.A.S.S. Evaluator. I hope you come along to enjoy new fun and learning.

The emphasis is on obedience geared towards real life skills, such as waiting poltely at a door, sit politely for petting and coming when called. Trained dogs are better family pets and tend to stay with families long term. Fun and interactive learning games will be part of the course work.. All Group Classes are held at Rainwood Kennels, in Elkton MD. Classes are limited to a maximum of 6 dogs, and puppies can start class at 3 months of age. Humane and force free methods are used in all classes.

 DEVELOPING DOG-DOG INTERACTION SKILLS

 THURSDAY MARCH 1st, 6:30 PM

This class will not be for the dog going ballistic at the sight of another leashed dog across the street, but for dogs with a lesser degree of social anxiety. Think "I would kinda like to meet that dog but I`m not really sure." Many rescued dogs are uncertain of other dogs, lacking backgrounds to develope appropriate coping skills. Some dogs are just anxious. Others are frustrated greeters. Course work will include a wide variety from my tool box, including: settle and mat work (CU fashion), novel environmental enrichment,  relaxation protocol, impulse control games and exercises. Quite possibly we would also delve into the use of the popular LAT (Look At That a la Leslie McDevitt) and BAT (a la Grisha Stewart). In short, the goal will be dogs  working calmly in proximity to one another, with appropriate polite greetings.

Pre-requistes: Completion of a beginning level obedience class. Able to be in a classroom with other dogs  without constant over arousal. Able to listen and attend to cues. We are not looking for perfection or you would not be coming, but ability to operate in the group environment.

This will be a good class for performance dogs who need to learn relaxation and coping skills, rescued dogs who need improved skills or really, dogs from any walk of life.

NOTE: The majority of the work will be done on leash. Off leash work will be done where appropriate and if deemed safe.

Maximum of 4 dogs, 6 weeks FEE: $150

**BOARD and TRAIN****

Can't take Fido on vacation? Or does Fido desparately need effective training to give you a helping hand? In either case, my board and train program may be the answer for you. Only humane and force free training methods are used, and you can rest assured that Fido will be treated like a family member. I work with boarding dogs for two 1/2 hour training sessions a day, on behaviors that you stipulate as we chat during the day of drop off meet 'n greet. You will be present as Fido gets to know me, and see that he will be quite comfortable with me. Upon return, we will meet again for a hands on training session, where you will receive typed training notes, specific recommendations, and a training packet. For stays of 10 days or longer, an additonal follow-up appointment is included. This is some of my favorite work, the one-one time with new furry friends, then teaching families how to get and maintain the new behaviors. Call 443-350-6820 for more details.

Behavior Modification

For dogs, it is all about behavior, behavior that works for them. We humans do not appreciate many of these doggy behaviors, which is where my services come in. • House Soiling
  • Resource Guarding
  • Excessive Barking
  • Extreme Fearfulness
  • Fear-related Aggression
  • Separation Anxiety
  • Houdini Escape Artists
  • Acclimating Rescues to New Homes
  • On Leash Reactivity
  • Dog-Dog Aggression
  • Dog-Human Aggression
